Nana's No Gluten Chocolate Cookie

I ate this product today. It was light, airy, and didn't have much of a taste. If you eat it with milk you will also have an unpleasant aftertaste which to me is just wrong with a cookie. I may purchase this item again.

Nana's No Gluten Chocolate Cookie can be purchased at Whole Foods.

Glutino Gluten Free Macaroni & Cheese

I ate this product a couple of night ago. I cooked it to the directions on the back and started munching. This item was rather plain but still good. I put some Havarti cheese in to liven it up and Viola! terrific. I'll be purchasing this item again in the future.

Natural Nectar Gluten Free Cracklebred Sun Dried Tomato & Oregano

I have been eating these bad boys for almost two weeks now and there is not a single thing I do not like about this product. It's light and crispy, low in calories, and just plain divine. I love to put different things on these for a tasty snack. It's the most bread-like GF thing I've eaten. I will purchased this item again and again and again.

Glutino Gluten Free Pizza Duo Cheese

I had this for dinner tonight. I followed the instructions on the back to a T. I though it was rather plain tasting but still very good for a GF Pizza. I also put it in the microwave for 30 seconds after cooking so that the cheese was completely melted. I liked this item and will purchase it again.

Kettle Cuisine Grilled Chicken and Corn Chowder

I ate this for dinner a couple of nights ago. I rather enjoyed the taste of this item. It was a little spicey but I like spicey so that was a plus for me. It's got a lot of little peppers in it - I would have rather they puread those. The soup was tastey and the chicken was good. I enjoyed eating this item and plan to purchase it again.

This item can be purchased at Earth Fare and Whole Foods.

Earth Fare Natural Chocolate Chip Cookies

I like trying out GF cookies because I just love cookies! These were a bit dry and like to crumble but that's a common thing with GF cookies. I loved the flavor and the low fat/calorie content compared to regular G-containing items. I will most definitely purchase this item again.

Food of Life Brown Rice Tortillas

I had these for dinner a few nights ago. I folded one in half, filled it full of cheese, slathered it in butter, and plopped it on the grill. I don't think I used the right kind of cheese because it really wasn't flavorful enough for me to notice that there even was any. The brown rice of the tortilla dried out quickly and didn't really absorb the butter so much. The taste was al right for a tortilla but still rather strange and not what I was expecting. I think I'm going to need to experiment with different ways of cooking these guys before I find how I prefer them cooked. I will purchase these again just not that often.

Monday, January 18, 2010

Last night I had this for dinner and let me just say I was blown away. This was absolutely delicious. I didn't expect it to taste as good as it did. The cheese was soft and flavorful. The sauce was good and the perfect proportion not to mess up the pizza. The crust was soft and in some places (outer area) crunchy. It felt like I was eating a regular pizza. This item is highly recommended and will be purchased again.

Glutino Chicken Penne Alfredo

I've had Glutino Chicken Penne Alfredo twice now and I have to say both times I had a different experience. The sauce was creamy and enjoyable. The chicken was okay. The pasta tasted hard and not-cooked enough where as last time it was soft and squishy. I'm wondering if they don't have consistent cook-times or something. Isn't it all pre-programmed? All and all I liked this meal and will purchase it again.

Amy's Rice Crust Cheese Pizza

Amy's Rice Crust Cheese Pizza is a step in the right direction. For me though, it was really only a step. The cheese was delicious and the sauce as well. The crust... not as much. For me it got a little soggy - I didn't want to burn it (since rice burns easily) so I didn't cook it at the longest range. Therefore it wasn't all the way done and I like my pizza all the way done. The crust was also flaky and kind of fell apart on me which was okay but definitely not what I was expecting. Overall it was all right - I really can't complain since this is a GF pizza and I just LOVE pizza. I will purchase this item again but only occasionally.

I bought this pizza at Ingles.

Absolutely Divine Intense Dark Chocolate Bar & Absolutely Divine Creamy Milk Chocolate Bar

Absolutely Divine Intense Dark Chocolate Bar is just that - INTENSE. The flavor is strong and rich. Seeing as how I'm rather a fan of dark chocolate this does not turn out to be a bad thing in my case. I enjoyed the dark chocolate quite a bit and think it would do well shaven over some dessert or added into a recipe. I will purchase this product again.

Absolutely Divine Creamy Milk Chocolate Bar is just that - CREAMY. The flavor is light and well, creamy. I do not like creamy milk chocolate and so I didn't particularly like this chocolate bar. I won't purchase this product again.

In both packages there are 8 squares of chocolate. This was purchased for me at CVS.

Absolutely Divine Intense Dark Chocolate Bar gets a 10 out of 10.

Absolutely Divine Creamy Milk Chocolate Bar gets a 3.5 out of 10.

Amy's Rice Mac & Cheese

I ate Amy's Rice Mac & Cheese last night. I've had this GF item before and the last time I did I used convection. I thought it was okay but I wasn't thinking of purchasing it again. However, I did purchase it again and this time I cooked it with the microwave instructions - Big Difference. Personally I think this item tasted a lot better cooked in a microwave. It was creamy in texture and had quite a lot of cheese. The cheese that was used is delicious and I ended up scraping the inside of the little container just to get more. The noodles were exceptional and everything tasted just right. I'm glad I gave it a second go because it will be a regular on my grocery list now!

This item was purchased at Ingles but can also be purchased at Publix.

Amy's Baked Ziti Kids Meal

I had Amy's Baked Ziti Kids Meal for dinner last night. Not only is it GF it's also Dairy Free (which is good for other people but I have no problems with dairy). The pasta was good and while not the most flavorful thing paired well with everything else. The broccoli tasted fresh and was about as much as could fit in the palm of my hand. Rice focaccia came with it that I really enjoyed eating. It was light, fluffy, and made me wish I had the recipe for how to make it. The apple crisp was delicious and I'm not much of a red apple fan so that' saying a lot. All and all I was very satisfied with my purchase because there was nothing in this box that I didn't like. I will purchase this item again.

This item was purchased at Publix.

On a side note I'm making one of my New Year's Resolutions to be: Cook 50 Gluten Free Recipes in 2010 - rice focaccia will be one of them.

Nature's Path Whole O's Cereal & Horizon Organic Fat-Free Milk

I had Whole O's for breakfast today. It's like Multigrain Cheerios (a favorite cereal before I went GF) with only the Corn and Rice ones. It's whole grain and the O's are a little harder and therefore crunchier than Cheerios which doesn't bother me. I like them and I'm a major cereal fan so that's a plus in my book. I hope they come out with some Honey Nut O's. Yum.

I had it with Horizon Organic Fat Free milk and therefore - good breakfast!
Nature's Path Whole O's Cereal was purchased at Ingles it can also be purchased at Publix. Horizon Organic Fat-Free Milk was purchased at Wal-Mart it can also be purchased at Ingles, Publix, and Bi-Lo.

Horizon Organic Fat-Free Milk gets a 10 out of 10.

Nature's Path Whole O's Cereal gets a 10 out of 10.

On a side note I called Horizon Organics to see which of their products were Gluten Free and it turned out that all but one are GF! The one is (not surprisingly) their Ice Cream Sandwiches.

Amy's Cheese Enchilada

I tried this little baby out today and let me just say I was pleasantly surprised. I went into this affair thinking I would hate it and in fact I quite loved it. I dislike having vegetables in my foods (at least the kind that you can see or feel in your mouth) so just the sight of them oozing out of the Enchilada in this picture was off-putting but I'm a GF Girl so I thought I'd give it a chance (limited options that I have).

I'm glad I did. The Enchiladas were soft and not soggy the sauce was spot on and complemented the other tastes rather well. And the cheese! Oh the cheese was simply divine and I happen to be a big cheese fan! It was very filling and I will most definitely buy this again. The only way this could have been better was if there was a little less corn tortilla (thinner) and in it's place more cheese.
This item was purchased at Publix it can also be purchased at Ingles and Wal-Mart.

Amy's Cheese Enchilada gets a 9 out of 10.

On a side note I don't hate all vegetables - broccoli, green beans, carrots (in soup only), tomatoes, and corn are on my Good list.

The Start of a Journey

So it starts out like this:

A couple of months ago I found out I had Celiac Disease - not news anyone wants to hear. It was a little daunting for me because I love to eat out - pizza, quesodillas, mozzarella sticks, breakfast sandwiches, pasta, bagels, donuts, gyros, mac&cheese, subs, soups, buns, rolls, churros, waffles, pancakes - all of which have (guess what?) GLUTEN! No wonder I was in pain for the last few years - it's basically all I ate since at home I'd go through 3 boxes of cereal in a week.

I trashed and gave away everything that had gluten in it and started my GF lifestyle - which believe you me is harder than climbing a mountain. Or maybe it is as hard - the GF Mountain. I have to find my way to the top of it - journeying through all of the crazy foods that comes along the way.

Every gluten free food that passes my lips (and other's lips as well since I love to go out and I love to cook for people) will be recorded thus. I'll have to do some catching up though - since I've been eating GF since November... or attempting to.
